Prologue:Origin
October 12,1989.
What is the significance of this day you may ask?
In the annals of history that would become known as the day that the lives of every man, woman, and child on Earth changed for the better. It was on that balmy day in the spring of 1989 that the greatest hero the world,no the universe, would ever know quite literal dropped from the sky in a rain of fire.It was on that day the child known as Kal-El arrived in the quaint, sleepy little Kansas farm town known as Smallville. Historians the universe over knew that this was the starting point from which a frightened little boy from another planet began his journey to Adulthood. This would always regarded as the day that the world was forever changed for the better. There had always been debates and speculations about the early life of the man who would become known as Superman. None of them would know that they only had half of the story. None of them would know about the two children who would be forever linked by the chains of destiny. Linked by destiny and a love so pure, immutable that it transcended space itself.Only those who knew them personally knew of the true reason for Clark Kent's raise to prominence. The old axiom,"Behind every great man was a great woman helping him succeed," was true in this case. Smallville Kansas was where the Age of Heroes began but Chloe Sullivan was the reason that Clark Kent lead the charge. At the core of this hero's right of passage was a love story. The love story Clark Kent and Chloe Sullivan.Every story has a beginning, middle, and a end. To fully understand the story of Clark Kent and Chloe Sullivan we first must go to the end of another one. Their story truly began at the end of the story of the planet Krypton. Krypton, the planet of Clark's birth, was a technological Utopian society.A Utopian race that would come to be destroyed by its own hubris and pride. Krypton was torn apart by a brutally destructive civil war started by the leader of the House of Zod. General Dru-Zod was considered to be one of the greatest soldiers in the modern Kryptonian age.His keen intellect and sound military strategies were instrumental in Krypton's expansion throughout the universe. None were as loyal to the Kryptonian Ruling Council then the House of Zod. Unfortunately for the rulers of Krypton that loyalty ended when the Council told him that they were shifting their focus away from conquest and towards scientific pursuits. Zod and his followers believed that the Ruling Council were fools for ignoring their military might in favor of science. Zod believed that Krypton was destined to rule the universe. It was this belief and The Ruling Council ordering Krypton's borders closed that lead to Zod declaring war on them.Clark Kent,Birth name Kal-El,was the last child born before the civil war blossomed fully. For five years war ravaged the planet of Krypton without a end in sight. Finally Zod was stopped by the Ruling Council. Zod's body was destroyed before he was condemned to imprisonment in the Phantom Zone.
Shortly after the end of the war Clark's biological father Jor-El,a highly revered scientist, discovered that the planet's sun Rao was rapidly destabilizing and would explode within thirty days. When he presented his findings to the Council they refused to believe him. They even went so far as to threaten Jor-El with sedition if he told anyone his suspicions to anyone. After the war with Zod they wouldn't tolerate anyone going against them again. In their arrogance they had condemned their own people to death. Jor-El knew that he had to take immediate action if he was to save his loved ones from the grim fate that he knew was going to befall them. Jor-El and his wife Lara knew that they didn't have much time before Rao entered its final stage of life.Unfortunately Jor-El had limited resources and was only able to construct a ship big enough for their son.He completed the ship on the very day that the planet entered it's death throes. Clark's ship escaped the planet's fiery destruction scant seconds before the sun went supernova. Like a space age Moses Clark was set adrift on his version of the River Nile but he hadn't made the trip to Earth alone. Several thousand pounds of debris had gotten caught in his ship's wake and had been drawn to the planet just as he was.On the afternoon of October 12th Smallville Kansas was changed forever. It was on that day that the remnants of Krypton rained down on the people of Smallville like the wrath of a vengeful god. The meteor shower ravaged the small, close knit farming community. Clark's ship landed safely amid the chaos and destruction.Clark was found by a kindly farmer named Jonathan Kent and his wife Martha.Martha Kent was instantly enamored with the child.Unable to have children of their own Martha Kent convinced her husband that they should keep the boy and raise him as their own. Despite the rather unusual circumstances in which they found him Jonathan Kent agreed with his wife. Using her maiden name Martha and Jonathan named him Clark. As Clark aged The Kents began to realize just how different he was from everyone around him.He was much stronger, faster, and smarter than all the other kids in school. He discovered just how smart he was at the age of five. His mother had taken him into town while she ran some errands. Clark, bored to tears wander into the Smallville Library. Clark and walked into the library and started reading. By the time that his mother had found him he had read every book in the building. Forty five minutes later s frantic Martha Kent came upon a large crowd of people nervously talking outside of the library. When she talked to the head Librarian Mrs Ross Martha was told that some unseen force had been moving all of the books around. Martha Kent knew immediately just who this "unseen force" was. Sneaking into the building she found her son surrounded by books. Books that he was reading at a pace that was making her head swim. Martha was able to quickly and quietly get Clark out of the library and back to the car.Shortly after they got home Clark asked the question that his parents had dreaded he'd ask.
Why was he so different?
As much as they hated it both Martha and Jonathan agreed early on that they wouldn't keep Clark's origins from him. When his abilities first began to develop they knew that he was special. It was their job as his parents to prepare him and help him learn to control the abilities that he had. They both knew that they were trying to navigate in totally uncharted waters but they loved Clark too much to not try to protect him. His father proceeded to take him into the storm cellar and show him the ship that he had arrived in. He told Clark everything that day.Rather then be upset by the startling revelation of his alien origins it had put his mind at ease.He even had a better perspective on certain things. The dreams that he would sometimes have of a world of ice that was stained red by the light of a giant red sun now made sense to him.He was dreaming of the planet that he was born on. He was sure of it. He also realized why his parents wanted him to hide his gifts from the world. He now knew why it was so important. From that moment on he kept his various gifts under wraps. To those who knew him Clark Kent was a quiet, intelligent, and unassuming child who kept to himself and loved to gaze up at the stars. When he was twelve Clark began to test his abilities late at night.Pushing them and himself to the limits. Clark wanted to see just how fast he could run.How far he could jump. And how much he could lift. Clark grew into a amiable young man who was always respectful to others but somewhat lonely. His need to keep his powers a secret distanced him from all those around him. Clark even had to keep his best friend at arm's length sometimes. As well adjusted as Clark had become there was still a part of him that wished that he knew just why his birth parents had sent him away. Unfortunately all of the answers to his questions were locked away in his ship. A ship that, according to his parents, closed immediately after he climbed out of it.Nothing they did could open it.Not even Clark's great strength could open it.So his questions went totally unanswered. When Clark turned thirteen his life was changed forever by the arrival of a tiny human-shaped hurricane named Chloe Sullivan.Little did he know that the pushy transplant from Metropolis would become one of the most important people in his life. Little did he know that they had been bound by the chains of destiny even before they had met. They became fast friends after Principal Kwan asked him to give her a tour of the school on her first day.He even let her convince him to take her to the farm.During a tour of his home circumstances forced Clark to use his abilities to save her life.He fearfully told her about himself. Her response was to kiss him.Her easy acceptance of his alien status formed a bond between them that would never be broken.Clark Kent had fallen in love with the beautiful blonde that very second. On that day the young Kryptonian had found a love that would last a lifetime.
Clark and Chloe wouldn't discover how the meteor shower had connected them until much later in their lives. At the tender age of two Chloe and her mother Moira Sullivan were caught in the meteor shower that rocked Smallville. Moira was taking Chloe to see her sister Ella.Chloe and Ella's daughters,Lois and Lucy, were the best of friends. Ella's husband Sam,a career military officer, had gotten stationed at a military base outside of Grandville called Fort Ryan. They had just pasted Miller's field when a meteor struck the road next to their car.The force of the meteor's explosive impact caused Moira to lose control of their car and crash. The meteor's impact threw Moira Sullivan's car into one of the many corn fields that ran through Smallville. For several minutes they laid unconscious, the sickly green glow of a meteor fragment reflecting off their blood soaked faces. Chloe woke up before her mother and somehow managed to stumble from the overturned automobile. They were found and taken to the hospital several minutes later. Neither Chloe or her mother seemed to have suffered any ill effect from their exposure to the meteor's strange radiation or the crash. On Chloe's third birthday Moira Lane-Sullivan vanished without a trace. Chloe wouldn't discover the truth of why until she was well into her twenties. Despite the pain of losing her mother Chloe remained a bright, happy, inquisitive child. Chloe's road to destiny began on the day that her father got a promotion at LuthorCorp. A promotion that made him Manager at the LuthorCorp Fertilizer Plant in Smallville. And the rest,as they say,is history.
This is a the life and times of Clark Kent and Chloe Sullivan, their triumphs and tragedies, this is their story.
